You'll be given an introduction to bat ecology, learn about the 18 species found in the UK, and discuss some of the threats they face plus the work that is being done to protect them. We'll follow it up with a post-walk newsletter that will answer any burning questions you may have.Children (12+) are welcome!Meeting place – “The Cherry” pub, Mile End (toilets available inside) at 7.30pm.Dates: Tues 21 April and Tues 5 MayPublic transport links – Mile End Station (Central, Circle, District, Hammersmith & City Lines), Stepney Green (Circle, District, Hammersmith & City Lines, 10 min walk), local buses.We will start and finish at The Cherry pub, as this route takes us partway along the canal and back again. Her research expertise focuses on wildlife technology, where her undergrad introduced her to the use of bioacoustics in ecology. After spending several months travelling South America and researching bird diversity in Costa Rica, she returned to the UK for her masters, where she used her knowledge of bioacoustics to conduct independent research on urban bats in London's small parks.Uncovering a love for these wonderful, and often overlooked, flying mammals led to her establishing our bat walks in 2024. Since then, she has been on a mission to change public perceptions of bats and get people involved in their conservation along the way.
