PPP Breakfast with Professor Lord Robert Winston

Public Policy Projects (PPP) is pleased to invite you to our April health and care thought leadership breakfast with Professor of Fertility Studies at Imperial College London and Labour Peer, Lord Robert Winston “The future of fertility policy in the context of the genomics revolution”.

Since Lord Winston pioneering in vitro fertilisation techniques in the 1970s, fertility policy has enabled millions of children to be born worldwide.  Given the rapid transformation in global genomic discovery, there has never been a more critical time to discuss the science and ethics of fertility policy in the context of the genomics revolution.  Our speaker in April is one of the most respected authorities in the fertility policy space.  Join Public Policy Projects for one of the most interesting discussions in our 2019 series.  A state of the UK fertility sector talk will open the Public Policy Projects discussion.

Date: Tuesday April 9th 2019

Time: 7.30am - 9.30am

Location: The Law Society, 113 Chancery Lane, London, WC2A 1PL.

Professor Lord Robert Winston

Lord Winston is Professor of Science and Society and Emeritus Professor of Fertility Studies at Imperial College London.  In the 1970s he developed gynaecological surgical techniques that improved fertility treatments. He later pioneered new treatments to improve in vitro fertilisation (IVF) and developed pre-implantation diagnosis. This allowed embryos to be screened for genetic diseases and has allowed parents carrying faulty genes to have children free of illnesses such as cystic fibrosis. He now runs a research programme at the Institute of Reproductive and Developmental Biology at Imperial College that aims to improve human transplantation. Robert Winston has over 300 scientific publications about human reproduction and the early stages of pregnancy.  Robert Winston is also Chairman of the Genesis Research Trust – a charity which raised over £13 million to establish the Institute of Reproductive and Developmental Biology and which now funds high quality research into women’s health and babies.  Lord Winston is also a Labour peer.

We will be serving a hot breakfast. Please let us know of any dietary requirements.
