Pop Psychology: Music & Your Brain (Webinar)

From K-Pop to Country, from Disco to Dancehall, music can make you feel a range of emotions. But did you know that Music also influences key brain chemicals which, when harnessed correctly, can actively boost brain function & wellbeing? In this fascinating webinar, Neuroscientist Dr Julia Jones shows the science behind music’s effect on the body and brain, dismantling ideas to help you live happier and healthier for longer.

Neuroscience has shown that listening to music can physically improve brain function, enhance social engagement, improve cognitive function and even stave off degenerative illnesses. Drawing on research from around the world, including her own academic and professional work, we’ll delve into how music delivers many surprising benefits. The aim was to encourage people to consume a little music every day (through listening, singing, dancing, learning, playing, moving).

Julia will teach you the basic neuroscience principles so that you can make the most out of the resources available - wherever you may be.

Julia Jones has been examining the effects of music and sound on the brain and prescribing music for over 25 years - hence how she got the nickname 'Dr Rock'.

Her goal is to encourage a 360-degree approach that puts more focus on our brain and body. A third of current neurodegenerative diseases (including dementia) could have been prevented during working life. Julia wants to help people understand how to look after their brains as well as their bodies to 1) reduce the likelihood of developing neurodegenerative diseases in later life and 2) enabling them to get the most out of their incredible mind machine.
