Nowruz 2018 at SOAS
Join SOAS Afghan Society and SOAS Iranian Society on Thursday 22nd March for a night of festivities to welcome the New Year!
Nowruz, meaning 'new day', is the name of the Persian New Year and is celebrated by Iran, Afghanistan, Tajikistan and Azerbaijan amongst others. It is a secular holiday for most and is enjoyed by people of various faiths but finds its roots in Zoroastrianism. It has been celebrated for over 3,000 years in Western Asia, Central Asia, the Caucasus, the Black Sea Basin and the Balkans.
Every year, Nowruz coincides with the spring equinox and celebrates the rebirth of nature.
Come and join us for an evening with lots of food from both cuisines, drinks, music and a live performance by Elaha Soroor and her band Kefaya at the JCR/ Bar!
This event is open to all and free of charge.
