Poulenc’s fiery Organ Concerto for solo organ, strings and timpani opens the programme. Bach’s masterpiece Fantasia & Fugue in G minor – on which Poulenc based his concerto – follows. The programme culminates with Malcolm Arnold’s powerful and uplifting Concerto for Organ & Orchestra, featuring brass, strings and percussion. Released last year to great critical acclaim, the LCS recording of the Arnold Concerto was included in Gramophone’s annual Editor’s Top Choices, and received 5-star reviews in BBC Music Magazine and Choir & Organ.The spectacular Walker organ of St John the Evangelist, Islington, will be put through its paces. Don’t miss the opportunity to experience this music live.At 7pm there will be a short pre-concert guided talk by Colin Surtees from St John the Evangelist, about the artwork, architecture and history of this beautiful church.
