- **Event Description**: An evening with Tatiana ȚîbuleacAbout this EventA PROLANG event in collaboration with the Romanian Cultural Institute London and the Embassy of the Republic of MoldovaWe are pleased to invite you to an evening talk with bestselling author and EU Prize for Literature winner Tatiana Țîbuleac in dialogue with Associate Professor Ramona Gönczöl and the journalist, author and publisher Paula Erizanu, as well as students, Maria Popa, Ecaterina Rotaru and Cristina Bradescu. They will be discussing Tatiana’s literature, as well as how Moldovan, Romanian and diasporic history and identities reflect throughout her writing, including her latest novel Când ești fericit, lovește primul (2025).Her debut novel, Vara în care mama a avut ochii verzi, was awarded the Prize of the Writers' Union of the Republic of Moldova (2017), the Observator cultural magazine Prize and the Observator Lyceum Prize (2018). The novel was published in English and another ten languages.The Glass Garden, Tatiana Țîbuleac's second novel, published in 2018, was awarded the European Union Prize for Literature (2019) and it was translated in twelve languages.Speakers’ biosTatiana Țîbuleac was born on October 15, 1978 in Chișinău, Republic of Moldova. Graduated from the "Iulia Hasdeu" High School in Chișinău; graduated from the Faculty of Journalism and Communication Sciences of the State University of Moldova. She became known to the general public in 1995, when she initiated the "True Stories" column in the daily newspaper Flux. Since 1999, she has been part of the PRO-TV Chișinău team as a reporter, editor and news presenter. Currently based in Paris, where she works in the audiovisual field.Tatiana Țîbuleac is the author of three Romanian language novels that have been translated into more than 15 languages. Her works have also been transformed into plays in Moldova, Romania and Spain, where her debut novel has been sold in more than 150,000 copies. After a successful career in journalism in Moldova, Tatiana switched to literature. Tatiana has recently launched the English translation in London together with her translator, Monica Cure, an event organised by the Romanian Cultural Institute in London.Paula Erizanu (b. 1992) is a writer and journalist from Chisinau, Moldova. She studied History with Literature and History of Art at the New College of the Humanities in London and Journalism at City University London. She has written for the BBC, The Guardian, London Review of Books, Financial Times etc. Paula was shortlisted for the Culture Journalist of the Year award in 2019 in the UK's Words by Women competition. Her first book, This Is My First Revolution. Steal It (Cartier, 2011) was a creative nonfiction account of the 2009 pro-democracy protests in Moldova and won the Most Beautiful Book Production prize in Leipzig, offered by UNESCO Germany. She then published a volume of poetry, Take Care (Charmides, 2015) and co-edited, in collaboration with Alina Purcaru, the pioneering three-part anthology A Century of Romanian Poetry Written by Women (Cartier, 2019-2021). For her feminist historical novel The Woods Are Burning (Cartier, 2021), Paula received the Young Writer of the Year 2022 award at the Young Writers Gala in Bucharest, Romania. Her latest book, It Is Both Heaven and Hell Here. Moldova: a Century of Lived History (Cartier, 2025), won the Special Prize at Romania's Young Writers Gala.Ramona Gonczol is Associate Professor in Romanian language studies at SSEES, UCL. She convenes the PROLang group and is an academic coordinator for the Language Short Courses programme at SSEES. She is the author of Romanian an Essential Grammar (2nd edition, 2020) and the co-author of Colloquial Romanian(4th edition,2014). Her research interests lie in the area of language acquisition, heritage speakers, cultural identities, language policy, multilingualism, diasporic identity and ethnographic pedagogy. She is an active promoter of Romanian as a heritage language abroad. Ramona is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and many other prestigious national and international linguistic associations. She is the recipient for the Order for Cultural Merit in Promoting Romanian Culture and Language Abroad (2018).Maria Alexandra Popa is a year 2 student at UCL, studying Romanian and Comparative Literature.Cristina Brădeanu is a year 2 student at UCL, studying Politics, Sociology and East European Studies.Ecaterina Rotaru is a year 3 student at Loughborough University, studying Physics.
