Before many of the figures in BLEACH reach the canvas, they begin through an instinctive process of drawing: quick, physical and deliberately unresolved. Over years of working on paper, Irene has developed a visual language that allows the body to shift between abstraction and recognition, with gesture often taking precedence over a fixed or perfected image.This session takes that process as its starting point. Working from a live model, participants will be encouraged to approach drawing with the same freedom and immediacy that runs through Irene’s work, focusing on gesture, movement, proportion and the relationship between bodies rather than creating polished representations.Throughout BLEACH, the body is repeatedly bent, stretched, exposed, held and brought into contact with others. Drawing from Irene’s experiences of queer nightlife, intimacy, fetish culture and physical vulnerability, her figures explore the ways bodies occupy space and communicate through posture, touch and movement. The life drawing session offers another way of entering these ideas: not simply viewing the works, but spending time looking closely at the body and translating that observation through drawing.Hosted by Atelier Social, the evening will be informal and welcoming, with space for experimentation regardless of previous drawing experience.All levels are welcome.
