After an early career designing album covers for The Byrds and Buffalo Springfield, she authored several books including ; ; ; Two By Two; and L.A. Woman. Babitz’s writing was witty, hedonistic and sharp, often blending memoir and fiction, capturing the creative and social scene of 1970s southern California like no one else. After suffering severe burns in an accident in the mid 90s, she spent two decades living as increasingly private life, before dying in 2021, just as new audiences were discovering her work.Lili Anolik, whose 2019 biography . played a significant part in bringing Babitz to wider attention, calls Too L.A. "Eve's second masterpiece... It's a West Coast, late twentieth-century Room of One's Own, a feminist cri de coeur. It's every bit as candid, every bit as lucid, every bit as brutal, every bit as delicate as Virginia Woolf's celebrated manifesto."Babitz considered her letters "the kind of writing I do best," calling them "practically a diary," and rarely dropped them in a mailbox.
