Created by artists Fiona Freund and Lise Meyrick, this exhibition brings together painting and photography in a bold celebration of women today—women navigating impossible expectations, relentless double standards, and the everyday challenge of simply getting on with life.Both artists are long-term residents of Brixton. Many of the portraits by Fiona (award-winning photographer) are of incredible women, past and present, who have made a huge contribution to the community there. She is also showing portraits of Siouxie Sioux and Marina Abramovich - and other queens of drama. Lise (graphic designer and painter) works on both canvas and paper, allowing each material to influence the way images emerge. Some forms are clear; others dissolve into abstraction. Together, they are taking over the incredible Brixton Library Gallery space to install a show that will champion women and their lived experience in a bold, dynamic way.
