The Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi HSK test (or Chinese Proficiency Test) is China’s only standardised test of standard Chinese language proficiency or Mandarin language proficiency for non-native speakers. It approximates to the English equivalent which is the TOEFL.
The HSK test is administered by Hanban. Goldsmiths Confucius Institute is currently registered as one of the official HSK Testing Centres in the UK as well as the ONLY testing centre in London to offer e-testing (HSK, HSKK, YCT, BCT).
HSK1, HSK3 and HSK 5 exams start at 13:30 pm.
HSK 2, HSK4 and HSK6 exams start at 9:00 am.
HSK levels 2, 4 and 6 examinations will take place in the morning from 9:00-12:00. HSK levels 1, 3 and 5 examinations will take place from 13:30-17:00. The duration of the examination is contingent on what level of the HSK exam you are undertaking. The length of each examination is as follows:
HSK 1: 40 minutes
HSK 2: 55 minutes
HSK 3: 90 minutes
HSK 4: 105 minutes
HSK 5: 125 minutes
HSK 6: 140 minutes
How to book:
Step 1: Register online at at the Chinese Test website and send confirmation email to confucius-chinesetests (@gold.ac.uk)
Step 2: You will recieve an email to the relevant eventbrite page for payment.

Step 3: Select your test date and payment (and any postage fee) and complete transaction
Step 4: Registration complete (keep a copy of your eventbrite confirmation as receipt of payment)
Step 5: We will email you a reminder 1 week before your exam date.
In addition to the exam fees, there is an administration fee of £10.
If you wish your certificate to be posted to you, then there is a postage fee of £3 (UK) or £10 (International)
The exam fees are as follows:
Level 1 - £10
Level 2 - £20
Level 3 - £30
Level 4 - £40
Level 5 - £50
Level 6 - £60
All the fees are non-refundable.
Any changes (level and exam date) before the official (HSK) deadline can be processed. However we can only change level and/or exam date ONCE without extra charge.
No changes can be processed after the registration deadline.
Please note: As the e-test uses a system which is hosted on an external server outside the direct control of Goldsmiths Confucius Institute, candidates are reminded that, although rare, system failures may sometimes occur. In the event of a system failure, our team will do our best to restore the service with as minimal disruption to the candidate as possible.
