Hiking in the Forest. Fitness and adventures for Londoners

We will be exploring the wondering New Forest this weekend with a 13 mile hike per day, pub meals, and a stay on a campsite. Finally get a real feel for the countryside. We will have food in real tea houses and the most delicious country pubs for the best authentic cream teas and locally produced meals.Everyone will be taught the basics or orienteering and will get a chance to navigate along the routes we are taking, so you can expect the unexpected adventure.Watch out for the famous new forest ponies, sheep, cows, fallow, roe and red deer, donkeys and even llamas!Following the Norman Conquest, the New Forest was proclaimed a royal forest, in about 1079, by William the Conqueror. It was used for royal hunts, mainly of deer. It was created at the expense of more than 20 small hamlets and isolated farmsteads; hence it was then 'new' as a single compact areaWe will meet at Clapham Junction at 8:45 and take the 9:03 train to Ashurst. As always you are welcome and encouraged to bring dogs, but please let us know at least 10 days in advanced if you are so we can book the campsite for you, please bring water and proper walking boots, it’s also encouraged to wear 2 sets of socks at a time and bring plenty of spares in your bag in case it rains, you will be carrying all your things including your tent with you so please make sure your bags have straps which we can adjust to sit on your hips- you want to be fit and not end up with a back ache
