About this Event

Waders in the dales: ground nesting birds, their importance, challenges and future

Tom Ridgeon is a Project Ecologist at PBA Ecology.

Tom’s teatime talk at The Folly highlights the international significance of the Dales for populations of ground nesting birds and explores their challenges they face, as well as the actions that farmers can take (and often already are taking) to help them.

Tea, filter coffee and biscuits will be available.

What to expect

A forty minute lecture with the opportunity to ask questions.

What to bring/wear

As this workshop is inside, no special clothing is required, so wear something you feel comfortable in.

Parking

There is no parking at The Folly. The nearest car park is Greenfoot Car Park. The Folly is a ten minute walk from Settle Station.

Toilets and catering

There are toilets on site at The Folly, including an accessible toilet. Tea, coffee and water will be provided. The Folly Coffee House will be closed.

Access

Entry to the Museum is via three uneven steps. Entry to the Coffee House via is four uneven steps with handrail. To access The Folly in a wheelchair, go to the right past the Museum door. At the end of the building, follow the path between the building and driveway to enter both Museum and Coffee House by a rear door. The workshop will take place on the ground floor, which is wheelchair accessible throughout.


Tom’s talk has kindly been provided for free by PBA Ecology as a donation-in-kind to Ground Nest Fest. Tea, filter coffee and biscuits will be available.

This event is part of Ground Nest Fest, a week-long festival celebrating ground-nesting birds and their habitats, held in partnership between The Folly, Wild Ingleborough and Yorkshire Peat Partnership. It is generously funded by The Royal Society.
