- **Event Description**: A day exploring how we can be mates with our place through art, ecology and community at Thamesmead's Cathedral of Sewage.About this EventHELLO EARTH Launch Party19 September 2026 | 5.00 PM–9.00 PM | Crossness Pumping StationThree Rivers is a free-floating community-led platform for art and research in Bexley that opens the borough to new cultural processes and perspectives.Every three years a new programme takes shape in response to a Critical Question developed over time, and on its own terms, by our community members. We are pleased to announce our 2026-2029 programme HELLO EARTH will respond to the central question, “HOW CAN WE BE MATES WITH OUR PLACE?”It has been inspired by Bexley’s ‘Friends of’ groups - teams of local volunteers who act on behalf of the communities who use and care for places around the borough — many of whom Three Rivers have worked with in our first five years.HELLO EARTH will be shaped by people who live, work and study in Bexley through ongoing research, collaborations and public programmes, with an ambitious showcase planned to take place across the borough in 2029, creating imaginative encounters between art and the public, engaging with the issues shaping Bexley, and connecting local people to their surroundings in a playful, friendly spirit. To begin this process, we are inviting you to join us on 19 September at Crossness Pumping Station, Thamesmead’s Cathedral of Sewage, for a Launch Party where we will listen to your ideas and share some of our early thinking as we start this journey together.Conceived as a collective day of orientation, this event will invite local community groups, to think together with artists, activists, ecologists and storytellers (human and more-than-human) to open lines of inquiry about how creative practices can help us listen to, care for, and be-friend the places we inhabit. The gathering takes place at Crossness Pumping Station, a monumental piece of Victorian sewage infrastructure built on reclaimed marshland and held apart from the River Thames by a thick concrete barrier. The histories embedded within this site will become part of the conversations and reflections that open the HELLO EARTH journey.PROGRAMME5.00–5.30 PM | Arrivals, Encounters & WelcomingsGuests will gather at Crossness Pumping Station, a site where histories of water, infrastructure, labour, and ecology converge.
