For almost four decades, GRAVE DIGGER have embossed the international heavy-metal scene like almost no other band. Founded back in 1980 in the small town Gladbeck in Germany, the band featuring mastermind Chris Boltendahl generated their very own unique style that spreads, labeled as “True German Heavy Metal”, fusing elements of fear, fright and headbanging Today GRAVE DIGGER albums like Heavy Metal Breakdown and Witch Hunter are amongst the best known genre classics. Composed and released in the mid-80s, these masterpieces established GRAVE DIGGER as a scene pioneer and proved to the world that they stand for high quality and pure heavy metal without any compromises right from the beginning. After recharging their forces at the end of the 80s they returned with a big bang. unleashing their legendary The Reaper album to the world of heavy metal. This was just the start: They released one classic album after another. Heart Of Darkness and Tunes Of War are well known by every true metalhead to this day! Also during this period they released Knights Of The Cross, Excalibur and Tunes Of War which was GRAVE DIGGER’S legendary medieval trilogy. In the beginning of the new millennium, Manni Schmidt joined GRAVE DIGGER as the new guitarist. With the first album featuring the new lineup, the band went on darker paths and so The Grave Digger became the blackest release so far. In 2005 the band invited 5000 diehard fans to South America to celebrate its 25th birthday. The sheer energy and excitement from the show can be heard on 25 To Live, which was recorded at the show in Sao Paulo, Brazil. 2009 set another milestone in GRAVE DIGGER’S grandiose career: Ballads Of A Hangman was their first album ever to showcase twin guitars. It was also the first album to be released under Napalm Records, which has become their longtime partner and home for every album since. In the same year, guitarist Axel Ritt refreshed GRAVE DIGGERS unique style, Manni Schmidt left the band again. With Axel the band set the glorious final chapters of their Scotland-Saga, started back in 1996 by releasing The Clans Will Rise Again. For their 30th birthday there was only one worthy location: they invited their disciples from all over the world to the Holy Wacken Land, where they recorded The Clans Are Still Marching in front of 80.000 frenetic fans at Wacken Open Air. Even in 2018, GRAVE DIGGER are still the authentic and powerful force, they were from the very beginning. After the worldwide success of their last long player Healed By Metal, they return even stronger in 2018: The Living Dead shows a legend after all this years in top form. Complex and catchy at the same time, the new opus reminds of the bands heydays in the 90s, while setting new GRAVE DIGGER- standards. The heavy metal-legends fire off a bunch of catchy melodies and groovy riffs that converts every undead into a headbanger. Building up on their own traditions, they even find new paths that can be heard in the song “Zombie Dance” and in their cooperation with the labelmates RUSSKAJA. But that’s not all what GRAVE DIGGER has to deliver in the near future: In 2019 Chris Boltendahl and his four bandmates will once again burst the concert halls all over the world on their self-ironic “Tour Of The Living Dead”. It’s the next big step towards the 40th anniversary of GRAVE DIGGER! There is a lot more to expect in the future
