- **Event Description**: This in-person workshop focuses on GenAI in the context of practice-based and art education researchAbout this Event*This is an internal and in-person event exclusive to staff within AAD and across London MetVenue: Aldgate Campus, room tbcThis in-person workshop focuses on GenAI in the context of practice-based and art education research. It will discuss the current context, suggest a working glossary and share research interests in relation to wider GenAI developments as both a technology and a tool in the context of art and design practice. Participants will be introduced to provocations focused on design methodology on the one hand, academic writing on the other. We consider the rapidly evolving nature of GenAI in relation to topics such as the archive, intellectual property and critical thinking. The workshop will be practical, where participants can not only reflect on their own use of GenAI in the research context but also consider what opportunities there are to develop research activities exploring GenAI use in art and design practice.Participants are encouraged to articulate their current interest and practice associated with GenAI prior to the session via a shared document to be circulated in advance.Workshop Facilitators Ricardo Eversley is a Senior Lecturer in Digital Innovation in the School of Art, Architecture and Design at London Metropolitan University. His practice and research sit at the intersection of visual communication, design education, emerging technologies, and socially engaged design. Ricardo’s work explores how digital tools, including generative AI can support practice-based research, critical inquiry, and inclusive pedagogical models within art and design education. He is particularly interested in AI as a reflective and methodological aid rather than a substitute for creative authorship, examining its implications for design process, research documentation, authorship, and critical thinking. Alongside his academic role, Ricardo maintains an active role in industry and leads interdisciplinary initiatives that connect education, community engagement, and cultural production. Emma Davenport is Head of Student Experience and Academic Outcomes in the School of Architecture, Art and Design at London Met. She researches in educational practice associated with art and design pedagogies, in particular academic writing as creative process as well as the material culture of academic identities, in particular clothing and interiors. She is a co-founder of Writing for Research and Academic Practice (WRAP) network and a co-researcher for Writing and Identity in the Age of AI: A Global Higher Education Perspective based at UCL. Emma is the founder of LMU Writing Studio, opened in 2024, which has over 100 members and provides a supportive online space for anyone to work on their writing project.Image: AI-generated image derived from Man in Art Center by Photographee.eu (Adobe Stock, Education License).Transformed using Gemini and Adobe Photoshop Generative Expand (Firefly Image 3) by Ricardo Eversley, 2026.For internal use only XX055 XX050 XX051 XX005 XX081 XX064 XX106 XX107
