It examines the influence of that war on his identity, particularly his relationship with indigenous mercenary troops and the Spanish Foreign Legion, as well as his role in shaping the army that would intervene to overthrow the Second Republic. The characteristics of the front-line troops of the Nationalist army in the Civil War were derived from the experience of the colonial war, in which brutal tools of warfare were used against civilians and fighters for the independence of the Rif Republic (including chemical weapons). The Legacies of Francoism and Memory in Contemporary Spain by Alison Ribeiro de MenezesThis presentation will address the legacies of the Franco dictatorship into the 21st century, exploring recent memory debates and initiatives to confront them, especially in cultural terms, while also considering their limitations and unresolved issues. This event is organised in collaboration with the The Association of Hispanists of Great Britain and Ireland.Event in English. - **Event URL**: https://allevents.in/london/franco-before-the-civil-war-and-francoism-memory-in-contemporary-spain/100001852348597519 - **Event Categories**: - **Interested Audience**: - total_interested_count: 0 ## Ticket Details - **Ticket Price Range**: min: 0, max: 0, currency: GBP ## Event venue details - **city**: London - **state**: EN - **country**: United Kingdom - **location**: Instituto Cervantes London - **lat**: 51.5131396 - **long**: -0.11284630000000107 - **full address**: Instituto Cervantes London, 15-19 Devereux Ct, London, United Kingdom ## Event gallery - **Alt text**: Franco before the civil war and Francoism memory in contemporary Spain - **Image URL**: https://cdn-az.allevents.in/events7/banners/4b50d523b81abe87da02c923e0a6a99abb2951b55f39f750b814ef785593a7c4-rimg-w1200-h627-dc303344-gmir.jpg?v=1761944053 ## FAQs - **Q**: When and where is Franco before the civil war and Francoism memory in contemporary Spain being held? - **A:** Franco before the civil war and Francoism memory in contemporary Spain takes place on Thu, 06 Nov, 2025 at 06:30 pm to Thu, 06 Nov, 2025 at 08:30 pm at Instituto Cervantes London, 15-19 Devereux Ct, London, United Kingdom. - **Q**: Who is organizing Franco before the civil war and Francoism memory in contemporary Spain? - **A:** Franco before the civil war and Francoism memory in contemporary Spain is organized by Instituto Cervantes - London. ## Structured Data (JSON-LD) ```json [ { "@context": "https://schema.org", "@type": "Event", "name": "Franco before the civil war and Francoism memory in contemporary Spain", "image": "https://cdn-az.allevents.in/events7/banners/4b50d523b81abe87da02c923e0a6a99abb2951b55f39f750b814ef785593a7c4-rimg-w1200-h627-dc303344-gmir.jpg?v=1761944053", "startDate": "2025-11-06", "endDate": "2025-11-06", "url": "https://allevents.in/london/franco-before-the-civil-war-and-francoism-memory-in-contemporary-spain/100001852348597519", "location": { "@type": "Place", "name": "Instituto Cervantes London", "address": { "@type": "PostalAddress", "streetAddress": "15-19 Devereux Ct", "postalCode": "WC2R 3JJ", "addressLocality": "London", "addressRegion": "EN", "addressCountry": "GB" }, "geo": { "@type": "GeoCoordinates", "latitude": "51.5131396", "longitude": "-0.11284630000000107" } }, "eventAttendanceMode": "https://schema.org/OfflineEventAttendanceMode", "description": "Hispanists Sebastian Balfour and Alison Ribeiro de Menezes in conversation with Sarah Wright", "offers": [ { "@type": "AggregateOffer", "availability": "https://schema.org/InStock", "priceCurrency": "GBP", "availabilityStarts": "2026-10-13", "availabilityEnds": "2025-11-06", "validFrom": "2026-10-13", "lowPrice": "0.00", "highPrice": "0.00", "price": "0.00", "url": "https://allevents.in/london/franco-before-the-civil-war-and-francoism-memory-in-contemporary-spain/100001852348597519" }, { "@type": "Offer", "availability": "https://schema.org/InStock", "priceCurrency": "GBP", "availabilityStarts": "2026-10-13", "availabilityEnds": "", "validFrom": "2026-10-13", "url": "https://allevents.in/london/franco-before-the-civil-war-and-francoism-memory-in-contemporary-spain/100001852348597519", "price": 0, "name": "General Admission" }, { "@type": "Offer", "availability": "https://schema.org/InStock", "priceCurrency": "GBP", "availabilityStarts": "2026-10-13", "availabilityEnds": "", "validFrom": "2026-10-13", "url": "https://allevents.in/london/franco-before-the-civil-war-and-francoism-memory-in-contemporary-spain/100001852348597519", "price": 0, "name": "Online access" } ], "organizer": [ { "@type": "Organization", "name": "Instituto Cervantes - London", "url": "https://allevents.in/org/instituto-cervantes-london/22577728", "description": "The Instituto Cervantes is the official Spanish language and culture centre created by the Spanish government in 1991.
