Flexible Working: How can we take the force out of the teacher workforce?
Flexible working is becoming a well-worn phrase in education, especially when it comes to helping schools retain teachers who may otherwise leave the profession, but what exactly is flexible working and is it really compatible with the way schools work? These are some of the important questions we’ll be asking at our flexible working event on the November 15th from 6pm at the Sir Bobby Moore Academy in Stratford. In the spirit of collaboration, #WomenEd, the TES, LKMco, Flexible Teacher Talent, the Greater London Authority and EdVal will be joining forces to highlight the challenges and opportunities that come with flexible working.
During the evening, you’ll hear from:
The report authors of a new LKMco report for Teach London that focuses on teacher recruitment and retention in the Capital, outlining what appetite there is for flexible working and what it could look like.
Vivienne Porritt, one of the founders of #WomenEd and @WomenEdLondon, as she explains how WomenEd are helping schools and teachers implement flexible working.
Flexible Teacher Talent, an organisation that supports schools to normalise flexible working and retain effective teachers, where they outline case studies of schools that have made flexible working work.
Edval, as they explain how you can overcome timetabling issues to help lead the way in developing flexible working practices.
A panellist of headteachers, teachers and champions of flexible working who share their top tips for other senior leaders implementing flexible working and teachers who are seeking flexible working.
For those unable to make the event in person, it will be livestreamed - details to follow.
This event is the first of three events that LKMco and the TES are holding this year where we ask ‘How can we take the force out of the teacher workforce?’. The next two will be on creating diversity in the profession and teacher mental health and wellbeing. If you’d like to get in touch about either of those topics or have any questions about this event, please email YW5uYSB8IGxrbWNvICEgb3Jn.
There is also the potential for this event to be followed up with a more hands-on daytime event helping leaders consider the practicalities of implementing flexible working. We’ll be gauging the appetite for this follow up event on the evening, so please come with questions that we look forward to helping you answer.
