While previous seasons have featured a series of interviews with individuals sharing their stories, this season follows the life of one central person — Fatmata Kamara — alongside her husband and childhood sweetheart, Abu Bakar.Fatmata and Abu are from Freetown, Sierra Leone. The season begins there, before taking us on a journey with the couple as they travel towards Europe in search of safety and a future — until their journey takes an unexpected and heartbreaking turn.On 19 April 2023, Fatmata was shot and killed by European police officer Igor Markov while crossing the border between Greece and Macedonia.
