This event will be delivered in Russian.About this EventIn 1996, Swiss journalist Irena Brežná travelled to Chechnya to meet and write a report on the work and activities of Chechen women under Russian bombs and missiles. She lived with them in the ruins under shelling and befriended courageous anti-war activists. Irena returned to the North Caucasus four times to meet her friends. Upon returning to Switzerland, she organised aid packages for Chechen women and other humanitarian projects. In her speech, Irena Brežná will talk about her experience in this forgotten war without rules.(in Russian)В 1996 году швейцарская журналистка Ирена Брежна поехала в Чечню, чтобы познакомится и написать репортаж о жизни и деятельности чеченских женщин под российскими бомбами и ракетами. Возвращаясь в Швейцарию, она организовывала посылки помощи и другие гуманитарные проекты для чеченских женщин.В своем выступлении Ирена Брежна расскажет о своем опыте в этой забытой войне без правил.Bio in EnglishIrena Brežná is a Slovak-born Swiss writer and journalist. Following the Soviet-led invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1968, she emigrated to Switzerland. Irena read Slavonic studies, philosophy, and psychology at the University of Basle. In addition to being a writer and journalist, she worked as a psychologist and an interpreter for refugees. An Amnesty International activist and she also served as a war correspondent in Chechnya. She writes mostly in German and has received numerous prizes in Switzerland, Germany and Slovakia for her journalism and literary work, including, in 2002, and the Theodor Wolff Prize for her war reportage from Chechnya. In 2021 the German PEN Centre awarded her the prestigious Hermann Kesten Prize for her writing and commitment to human rights. She has published several collections of essays, short stories and reportages, as well as the novels Schuppenhaut (1989) and Die beste aller Welten (2008). Her third novel, The Thankless Foreigner, published in German in 2012, received the Swiss Literature Prize and has been translated into nine languages.Bio in RussianИрена Брежна — швейцарская писательница и журналистка словацкого происхождения.
