The Highgate Choral Society (HCS) invites local singers to Experience Highgate—an obligation-free open taster rehearsal. We sing a wide range of classical choral music as well as occasional pieces composed for us. Come sit in, sing alongside our current choir members, experience the leadership of our Music Director Sam Evans, and discover what makes Monday nights with HCS so special.

Location: La Sainte Union School Hall, Croftdown Road, London NW5 1RP (Entrance directly opposite York Rise)

Q: Do I need to audition for the taster rehearsal?
A: No! The Experience Highgate taster session is completely audition-free. You can sit in, sing with your section, and get a feel for the choir without any pressure. If you decide to join HCS permanently, a simple, supportive voice check will be arranged later with Sam.

Q: Where and when do you rehearse?
A: We rehearse every Monday evening during term time (7:30pm – 9:30pm) at La Sainte Union School Hall in NW5 (Dartmouth Park / Highgate border).

Q: Do I need to be a fluent sight-reader or read music?
A: You don't need to be a professional sight-reader! While music reading skills are helpful, our supportive section leaders, rehearsal tracks, and conductor guidance ensure everyone can learn the repertoire effectively. 

Q: What if I haven't sung in a choir for years?
A: You are in good company! Many of our members had a long break before joining HCS. You'll find a supportive, non-judgmental atmosphere where you can rebuild your vocal confidence.

Q: How much does membership cost if I decide to join?
A: We are committed to making music accessible and offer discounted membership rates for younger singers, students, and those on low incomes.

Q: What else does Highgate Choral Society offer beyond rehearsals?
A: In addition to at least 3 concerts per year with professional orchestras across London, HCS hosts a residential singing workshop every year and a European choir tour every two years (our next tour is Bordeaux 2027!).
