On Wednesday 10 December, Dub Me Always is pleased to present a night of deep roots music when Jah Lingwa meets Tiny T, playing original reggae vinyl alongside the night’s regular host, David Katz, plus at 8pm sharp, a dub poetry reading by Cedar Lewisohn and Rockers LDN!
The veteran Brixton-based roots reggae and dub selector Jah Lingwa is the founder of RDK Hi-Fi and the Universal Roots record label. Growing up amongst the Caribbean community in the 1970s and 80s, Jah Lingwa was inspired by the sound system culture of the day and started collecting reggae from the mid-1980s before forming a sound system with a group of friends. Jah Lingwa has since played hundreds of dances and travelled across Europe with his sound system, playing at the Notting Hill Carnival in 1994 and at other esteemed events in the UK such as the Glastonbury festival, the Lambeth Country Show and the University of Dub, as well as Dub Camp and Reggae Waz in France, Reggae Bus and Reggae Geel in Belgium and Dub the Woods in Switzerland, plus many other large-scale events in Italy, Germany and the Czech Republic. This dynamic and energetic Rastafarian performer selects vinyl whilst dancing and chanting on the microphone with a serious message of peace, love and liberty. Jah Lingwa seriously knows how to get the people moving!
Tiny T and the Mighty Cloudburst represent something truly exceptional in sound system culture – a living bridge between reggae’s foundational era and its contemporary preservation. Tiny isn’t just another DJ playing reggae, he’s a custodian of an authentic lineage that traces directly back to Jamaica’s sound system origins. The fact that his father Freddie Cloudburst was Jah Shaka’s mentor and sound engineer places him at the very heart of UK sound system history. This isn’t borrowed culture; it's inherited legacy. Tiny’s 20,000+ record collection is essentially a musical museum of carefully curated selections spanning from 1950s R&B through ska, rock steady, roots and dub, and the fact that he plays original 45s exclusively shows his commitment to authenticity in an age of digital convenience. Tiny’s performances across Europe, Japan, Mexico and beyond demonstrate that he’s successfully carrying Jamaican music culture to new audiences while maintaining its authentic essence; performing everywhere from intimate UK venues to major European festivals indicates both grassroots respect and broader cultural impact. Tiny T occupies a rare position: he’s simultaneously a preservation society, a working DJ, and a family legacy; the Freddie Cloudburst → Jah Shaka → Tiny T lineage represents one of the most significant family trees in UK reggae history. Host of the Monday Mixcloud show, Tiny is keeping traditional sound system culture alive while making it accessible to new generations.
Cedar Lewisohn is an artist, writer and curator. He has worked on museum projects for institutions such as Tate Britain, Tate Modern and The British Council. He has published books on street art and the Marduk Prophecy and was curator of the Museum of London’s Dub London project; tonight he and Augustus Pablo’s associate Rockers LDN will read from Cedar’s chapbook Office Poems, with Cedar delivering standard verse and Rockers LDN the patois translations.
