About this Event

Do you want to explore your creative passion for dance? Are you interested in learning different approaches to dance training and challenging yourself with interesting and inspiring classes?

This general level contemporary ballet class will help you unwind from your week, explore your physicality and stimulate your creative muscles.

These classes are ideal for adult dancers who want to try new approaches to learning contemporary ballet. Some prior experience of ballet, dance or a related discipline is helpful. You will explore new ways of moving within a contemporary ballet framework with the careful guidance of our experienced dance artists. You will work on techniques that improve your body awareness and stretch you, mentally and physically.

"When we understand how the body moves, we are then able to find our fullest potential in strength, flexibility, and endurance with more ease. " ~ Kindall Payne

Decompress from your work week and focus on yourself and your creative approach to your body. Be inspired to explore your physical and creative potential in an environment that fosters diversity and inclusivity.

FAQ
COVID-19 Policy

Please be aware of the latest government and local authority advice on the covid-19 pandemic mitigation measures in our area, and the area you are travelling from/to. In line with government guidelines we may need to change or cancel these classes at short notice. Every effort will be made to keep you informed. Keep an eye on the @HackBallet Instagram page and other social media for last minute changes.

Please stay home if you have any symptoms of illness or feel unwell and follow NHS advice on self care and testing if necessary.

Places in our studio classes are limited so please take advantage of the option to participate in our online classes if you are unable to attend in person.

Please wear your face covering to and from the training venue and follow any updates regarding face covering regulations.

Our studio is well ventilated and external doors will be kept open for added airflow. There is the option to leave via the external door directly from the studio in order to avoid public areas indoors. Please follow the instructor's guidance regarding safe spacing and social distancing during the class.

What level are the classes?

The classes are great for adult dancers and dance students with some experience in ballet, but don't be deterred if you haven't had a lot of prior classical ballet training. Experience in yoga, circus, physical theatre, contemporary dance or another physical discipline will help you adapt your body awareness to this fusion style.

We are experienced in working with people with a range of body types and training backgrounds and will carefully observe your training to encourage you to get the most out of these classes.

What do I need to bring to the sessions?

Wear comfortable workout clothes and bring extra layers to keep warm at the beginning of class or to maintain your temperature throughout in cold weather.

If you have them already, you can wear flat canvas ballet shoes to these classes. You can also train in clean cotton socks or bare feet if you are more comfortable that way.

Bring a water bottle and a small towel.

If you bring your camera phone or video camera for selfies at the end of class, remember not to post any images publicly without getting permission from any other people in the background! Please ask, most of the time people are happy to support your training but please be mindful and change the angle of your shot or crop your picture if others prefer not to share their image.

How do I find the studio?

The entrance to the Margaret Shepherd Studio Theatre is inside SPACe Hoxton, the gym on the campus of New City College (formerly Hackney community college).

From Kingsland Road turn into Redvers Street and go through the security gate. Turn left and you will see the access ramp and bicycle racks in front of the gym entrance. You'll be greeted at the security desk by the friendly gym staff. Turn left and go through the double doors right to the end of the corridor. The Margaret Shepherd studio theatre is the last door on the left before the ladies loos!
