Seen from riverbanks, bridges, elevated viewpoints and distant horizons, it opens onto multiple Londons: historic, symbolic, everyday, contested and continually changing.The talk will consider how acts of looking become acts of interpretation. What forms of knowledge emerge from particular vantage points? What stories are amplified, obscured or transformed by different ways of framing the city? And how might we move beyond a single viewpoint towards more layered and multivocal accounts of urban life?Drawing on film, urban observation, ethnography and theory, London Palimpsest invites us to see London not as a fixed object, but as a living and unfolding field of relations.SpeakerChristoph Lueder is Associate Professor in Urbanism and Architecture at Kingston University London. His research focuses on the history of architecture and urbanism in the 20th and early 21st centuries, with particular attention to the roles of film and diagrams as analytical, narrative, generative and critical devices operating across bodily, architectural and urban scales.He has practised with Behnisch & Partners and Auer+Weber in Stuttgart, before establishing his own office in Zürich. His built work includes the University Library Magdeburg, social housing in Ingolstadt, Germany, and housing in Anting New Town, Shanghai.Christoph is Co-Editor of The Journal of Architecture and leads the postgraduate research programme in the Department of Architecture & Landscape at Kingston University.
