"description": "‘5 x 5 sq ft’ is a Natural Farming & Soil Ecology project by artist Miyuki Kasahara, looking at the politics and practicalities of soil and natural gardening, in connection to our health through growing experiments, soil examinations and wild-cam recordings. Taking inspiration from Masanobu Fukuoka, a pioneer of natural farming in Japan, this project is centered around a 5 x 5 square feet vegetable patch at an allotment. 5 x 5 sq ft began as an artist residency run by the art organization, Thamesmead Texas. The seed of the 5 x 5 sq ft was when the artist began to research the relationship between soil and food after experiencing an unknown severe food allergy reaction during 2020. Book here for free open-air workshop sessions in Thamesmead led by Miyuki: The first two are the Lakeside Centre, artist studio complex at Southmere Park, Thamesmead and the last at Tump 53 Nature Reserve, Thamesmead.
