# Event Details - **Event Name**: Casting in Concrete & Plaster (Thus & Fri, 1 - 2 Oct 2026) - **Event Start and End Date**: Thu, 01 Oct, 2026 at 10:00 am – Fri, 02 Oct, 2026 at 04:00 pm (+01:00) - **Event Description**: In this 2 day workshop, students will be constructing and casting shapes, and are encouraged to experiment with different finishes.About this EventParticipants will have the opportunity to think through making and explore material qualities hands-on.This workshop is designed to both introduce participants to the methods and processes involved in casting and moulding in plaster and concrete, whilst also encouraging the exploration of experimental mould construction and the possibilities of negative space (the mould) and positive space (the cast).Day 1 – Methods and ExperimentationDay one will introduce the two main casting materials that we will be using through several quick moulding and casting exercises including making relief panels from clay and sketch moulds from plastic sheet/cardboard. We will follow this up by exploring colouring through making bowl forms to also understand reinforcement of plaster to enable it be cast hollow. We will end the day with by discussing possible personal projects for the following day and other techniques that participants might wish to see demonstrated.Day 2 – Personal Project and ExtrapolationThe second day is an open-ended exploration of the techniques learnt on day one through the development of a small personal project. The tutor will be on hand to assist and go over techniques explored on the first day and offer advice and possible routes for development.
