Campfire Club: Alabaster dePlume | Luna Silva

Returning for a fourth summer filling London’s green spaces with music. A concert like no other: unamplified, outdoors, around a fire. Gather together and listen.

Alabaster dePlume

From Manchester, now based in London, Alabaster DePlume (Gus Fairbairn), is a performer, writer and musician. Since 2011 he has produced three albums on Manchester label Debt Records, toured Europe as a solo performer, produced short films, and written/performed a play with circus-aerial in Dublin. He has also presented a series of combined arts events celebrating both his and others’ work.

His recordings are played on national radio, most recently described as “cheerfully uneasy” on Radio 3. He uses music and spoken word to portray sentiments, often contradictory, that together evoke a new feeling. Whether in recording, writing or performance, his work has an emphasis on inclusion, encouragement and sincerity.

A saxophonist with an unusual tone reminiscent of Getatchew Mekurya, Alabaster collaborates with members of the folk and jazz scenes of London, Bristol and Manchester. His latest LP ‘Peach’ was produced by Paddy Steer, and accompanies short film ‘I Feel Good’ directed by Melodie Roulaud.

Luna Silva

Luna sings in three languages, influenced by the cultures she has come accross in her travels. Daughter of an English actress, a Spanish circus performer, and raised in France: Luna is a daughter of the world. Accompanied by her ukulele, she takes us on a journey of our own!

On stage, one feels her love of the public and her performative instinct. Her music is a mixture of contemporary music and traditional musics of this world. And in this world that is increasingly connecting, communicating and cooperating ; Luna Silva's music is deeply resonant.

Her quartet, ukulele/vocals, guitar, doublebass and percussion is an acoustic set with sass. Their arrangements touch on Eastern European Folk, English folk, straight pop, congolese jazz but above all one feels their love for creativity.
