Set in a carefully constructed version of Paris, it replaces the familiar postcard city with a world of glass, steel, offices, apartments, airports, restaurants and reflective façades. Everyday movement becomes a kind of choreography, as people try to navigate the spaces, signs and social codes of the modern city.The screening will be followed by a relaxed conversation about how Playtime represents architecture, design, modernity and the comic possibilities of urban life.Audiences are invited to arrive early to explore Cities on Screen before the screening.No specialist knowledge is needed — just an interest in film, cities, architecture or the built environment.Tickets are £5 and include a free drink. His monograph Landscape and Subjectivity in the Work of Patrick Keiller, W.G. Sebald and Iain Sinclair was published in 2020. He has taught English Literature, Comparative Literature and Film Studies at UCL, QMUL and City Lit. In collaboration with curator Jordan Rowe, he is 2027 Banister Fletcher Global Fellow in Urban Studies at the University of London Institute in Paris.Iain Borden is Professor of Architecture & Urban Culture, and Vice-Dean Education, at The Bartlett, UCL. He is particularly interested in how we experience buildings and cities both in person and through cultural representations.
