A lost manuscript discovered in a wine-stained cutlery drawer in the ruins of a

Shoreditch tavern. Is it a play? Is it a memoir? Is it a walking guide? Yes.

In this richly imagined work of historical fiction, we follow William Shakespeare,

novice writer and barely-cast bit player, and Christopher Marlowe, literary rock star

and government informant, on a chaotic day-long ramble through 1592 London; a

city part plague, part poem, part open wound.

Accompanied by their jester-companion Torche, whose wisdom is accidental, and

trousers questionable, the trio set off from the Rose Theatre in search of inspiration.

What follows is a semi-drunken dérive through bear-baiting pits, apothecary markets,

alehouses, and the profane glory of the Mermaid Tavern, pursued by cryptic

prophecies, bad actors, strange children, and the unsettling suspicion that something

in the city is watching.
