We are committed to empowering one another through shared experiences, professional development, and collective support, championing excellence and representation across all levels of healthcare.BNM UK was founded during the COVID-19 pandemic and following the death of George Floyd, a time when unprecedented challenges led to redeployment and unfamiliar working environments. Heightened emotions, alongside feelings of not being heard, supported, or listened to, brought nurses and midwives together who shared similar experiences. Championing one another felt essential, and these challenging times led to the formation of a community, the building of new relationships, and the creation of a strong sense of belonging.Women contribute immensely to the workforce, yet their unique health needs are often overlooked in workplace policies, support systems, and occupational health frameworks. Conditions such as menstrual health issues, fibroids, endometriosis, fertility challenges, and menopause can significantly influence women’s ability to attend work, be productive while working, and remain in employment in the long term. Beyond immediate physical symptoms, these health experiences intersect with mental wellbeing, workplace culture, managerial support, and broader economic outcomes.Research shows that women experience higher rates of work-related ill health compared to men, and this has tangible effects for both individuals and organisations. For example:• Women have a higher overall prevalence of ill health related to work, with around 5,770 cases per 100,000 female workers compared to 4,680 per 100,000 male workers, a difference that reflects the cumulative impact of health conditions on women’s working lives.• Women are about 25 per cent more likely than men to report that their job negatively impacts their mental health, with stress, anxiety, and depression occurring at higher rates among female employees.• Many women feel unsupported in their workplaces: surveys indicate around 60 per cent believe their health concerns are not taken seriously, and they are significantly more likely than men to feel completely unsupported when managing health issues at work.This summit will provide a safe and inclusive space for students, nurses, midwives, and individuals that work in healthcare to connect through networking and shared experiences.
