But why did they build this wall and why did it survive?We will explore these and many other questions and view the best sections of the Wall, as well as the small London Wall Museum, putting the Wall in the context of Roman Britain and the wider Roman Empire over the centuries.The tour involves a small amount of walking on good surfaces and we will end in the café of the free London Wall Museum for lunch.People may wish to visit the nearby church of All Hallows afterwards, which has a good free mini- museum of local Roman archaeology.This tour will be of general interest to anyone with a love of history and archaeology, but it will be especially helpful if you are studying A340 Roman Empire or A229 Exploring the Classical World at the Open University.Where to meetPlease meet your tutor, Cathy Mercer, 10.45am at the exit of Tower Hill Underground Station for a prompt 11am start.About LRAC, the Arts and Humanities SocietyLRAC, the Arts and Humanities Society, is a non profit making club run by a voluntary group of past and present Open University students who arrange study days, lectures, workshops, museum and gallery visits.We are not a formal part of the Open University but we are affiliated to the Open University Students Association: We do not receive any funding from the Open University or other institutions.
