- **Event Description**: A review of French colonial behaviour toward 'independent' African nations linked to films/books which tell these suppressed storiesAbout this EventThis event is organised by Black History Walks as part of 60 years since 1965 the first ever Race Relations Act, and 20 years of the African Odysseys film series in collaboration with the Centre for Visual Cultures, Royal Holloway, University of LondonWestern media often accuses African leaders of corruption while ignoring European nations that sponsored coups against leaders who were anti-corruption.While many know of Captain Thomas Sankara' assassination, there are many others. In this revealing presentation we review six countries affected by this interference and show the economic and political impact. We will cover:Little known films and books on the leadersMethods of 'removal'Economic warfarePuppets and collaboratorsFrantz Fanon and Ibrahim TraoréWhat is the CFA ?The presentation will be followed by a short discussion on French cinema and Black history with Professor James Williams of Royal Holloway University and Tony Warner of Black History Walks.There will be a follow up event on the history and impact of the CFA on Africa and France on the 18th March at the same venue.
