More information at the bottom of this page.  https://cdn-az.allevents.in/events3/banners/86f18dc0-03d9-11f1-af80-63c7d4652b84-rimg-w740-h740-dcdbd9d6-gmir.jpg About our speakerMark Lythgoe is Professor of Biomedical Imaging at University College, London, where he is the Founder and Director of the UCL Centre for Advanced Biomedical Imaging which develops the next generation of imaging technologies.Mark is also Director of Biomedical Imaging Research at the Francis Crick Institute and was Chair of Cheltenham Science Festival at a time that saw it grow to one of the largest in the world.He's published over 300 medical and scientific papers – including in Nature and The Lancet – and his ongoing research concerns a device which combines diagnosis and therapy into a single handheld MRI system.Mark's multidisciplinary approach, bridging healthcare engineering and clinical medicine, has led to numerous imaging breakthroughs as well as contributing significantly to translating new imaging developments into clinical practice.He was awarded the  in 2021for his ‘contribution of fundamental science to the advancement of medicine’ and has appeared in numerous radio and TV programmes including BBC Radio 4's The Life Scientific.For his contributions to communicating science, Mark was awarded the Neuroscience Prize for Public Understanding from the British Neuroscience Association, Dorothy Hodgkin Award, Biosciences Federation Science Communication Award and was made a Fellow of the British Science Association.Remarkably, he's achieved all this despite failing his A-levels, never going to university for an undergraduate degree and having a CV which he describes as having "more holes than a Tetley tea bag".PubSci is delighted to welcome Mark as our February speaker.  https://cdn-az.allevents.in/events3/banners/871f0660-03d9-11f1-888a-7935f87146a8-rimg-w526-h740-dc160901-gmir.jpg About PubSciPubSci presents accessible science talks in the comfort of a pub meeting room so you can enjoy top quality science talks with a drink in your hand.It is an independent initiative run by volunteers, is not-for-profit, and receives no funding other than attendee contributions.We believe science is for everyone and we want everybody to be able to afford our events, so we run PubSci on a Pay-What-You-Can basis.
