Wykład zatytułowany “Class as an Asset in Context: A Sociologist Puts Sociology to Work on Structural Inequalities and Opportunity Pipelines” wygłosi prof. Colby King (University of South Carolina Upstate)

Abstrakt
Growing up the son of a steel mill worker from the rust belt in western Pennsylvania and the first in his family to earn a bachelor’s degree, Prof. King saw how social class and changing contexts shaped opportunities. Through his research he has applied to addressing social inequalities and taken an asset-based approach to supporting people through opportunities. In this talk he will discuss how his background shaped his sociological perspective and will highlight key findings from his research. His work illustrates how examining structural inequalities and shifting contexts, combined with an asset-based approach to understanding background differences, sociology can be put to work to enliven and enrich our classrooms, institutions, the discipline of sociology, and our communities.
