THARK : Friday 4th and Saturday 5th July at 7:30.
To celebrate 100 years of Plays in the Peterston Village Hall we present THARK by Ben Travers - one of the best and funniest farces of the 1920’s . It is a frivolous, jovial, and joyously irrelevant delight.
Sir Hector Benbow, an ageing roué, has arranged a dinner-date with gorgeous shop proprietor Cherry Buck only to find that his wife Lady Maud has unexpectedly returned home. An escalating series of evasion tactics follows drawing in his hapless nephew, Ronny, his innocent ward Kitty, long-suffering housekeeper Mrs, Hook and terrified maid Warner.
The action takes us to THARK the crumbling country house that Sir Hector has sold to Mrs Frush, a sale that she is now keen to undo because the house is haunted. .Her lovelorn son Lionel enters the fray to further muddle the story
THARK is safeguarded by the sinister butler Death and the spooky events investigated by earnest Newspaper reporter Whittle.
The supposed ghost serves as an excuse for various characters to crawl into bed with people who are not their significant others.
In other words, it’s exactly what you would expect from a 1920s country house farce.
With live music and a 1920’s Cocktail Bar this will be a splendid evening to celebrate the Centenary of our terrific Village Hall.
Tickets available from The Village Shop or Three Horseshoes or text 07771803639.
