'Alt. Folk played with the fire and intensity of Bluegrass'. FFO Punch Brothers, Nick Drake, Fleet Foxes
“Ace band. What a great vocal, voice like moonlight dancing off the top of trees… or something like that” – Adam Walton BBC Radio Wales
“Maturity and dynamism in the music coupled to confident, charismatic stage presences. This is vibrant contemporary folk music, and, more than anything, it is a hell of a lot of fun.” - From The Margins“Pounding and percussive acoustic guitars, mandolin as sharp as shards of glass and devastating harmonies” - Liverpool etc.
“Charming and melodic, lovingly understated and carefully crafted, Mountainface are a talented trio with a wealth of promise to their name” - Artree
Building with 'unstoppable momentum and joy' Mountainface's music is driven by fiercely dynamic mandolin and guitar work, affecting lyrics and swelling three-part harmony. 'From The Margins' describe it as "alt. folk played with the intensity and fire of raw bluegrass. They really have something, a vivid life in their playing, that sets them apart." Whilst 'It Would Crumble' added "the group's passion for their music is clear and marries with their undeniable energy”
Music Graduates Matthew Youds, David Weir & Tom Winch had moved into a small place in Chester, trying to piece together a post-University life for themselves, forever overhearing each other playing music alone in their rooms. Realising what they were missing they finally banded together in early 2016 to write and self produce their first EP ‘Lets Play’, released in July that same year - all before having played their first gig together!
After a busy first year they headed into Penylan Studios in the Summer of 2017 with producers Sebastian Allemand (Gallops, Heal The Last Stand) & Rod Callan (Ronnie Wood, Donovan) to record their debut Studio EP. The 'Dead Lake' EP was released April 20th, 2018 with a packed-out launch gig at the renowned Telfords Warehouse, with plans to tour further afield in both the UK and Europe towards the back end of the year.
Since their formation they’re gone on to support the likes of This Is The Kit, Scott Matthews, Blair Dunlop, Urban Folk Quartet, Moore Moss Rutter and Greg Russell & Ciaran Algar; shared stages with Seth Lakeman, Jon Gomm, Merry Hell & Marcus Bonfanti and have had repeat performances at Focus Wales, Gorjys Secrets Festival, Cropredy Fringe and Folk On The Dock.
