Residents of Overton County will soon have the opportunity to explore new career possibilities
in an exciting and interactive way at Millard Oakley Public Library.
On April 25 from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m., Millard Oakley Public Library will host a free virtual
reality (VR) career exploration event, inviting community members to experience different
career pathways through immersive technology.
The event is part of a federally funded initiative led by Middle Tennessee State University
(MTSU) that brings innovative workforce development tools to rural libraries across Tennessee.
Using VR headsets, participants can step into realistic job environments and gain a better
understanding of various careers and the skills they require.
Participants will have the opportunity to explore careers featured in Transfr VR’s Transfer
TREK programming, including:
 Advanced manufacturing technician
 Certified nursing assistant (CNA) and healthcare support roles
 Welding and skilled trades
 Automotive technician
 Construction and electrical trades
 Logistics and warehouse operations
 Hospitality and customer service careers
 Public safety roles such as law enforcement or emergency response
“This will be a great benefit to our community, and we appreciate the opportunity to share this
experience with our residents. Having access to this kind of
technology allows individuals to explore careers and build confidence with tools they may not
otherwise encounter.”
The program is designed to support individuals at all stages of their career journey, including
those entering or re-entering the workforce, students exploring future options, and adults
considering career changes. No prior experience with virtual reality or advanced technology is
needed.
Funded through an Institute of Museum and Library Services grant, the initiative aims to expand
access to career development resources in rural communities while also studying how virtual
reality can support workforce readiness and skill development.
Community members are encouraged to attend this free event and take advantage of the
opportunity to explore careers in a whole new way. Must be 18 years or older.
