Explore Brushy Peak Hike

Come and explore Brushy Peak Regional Preserve, one of the Diablo Range's hidden gems. With spectacular views of the Livermore Valley and Diablo Range, the preserve hosts a wide variety of wildlife species and vegetation. The grassland hills provide habitat for a diversity of species such as reptiles, avians and mammals. Watch Red-Tailed Hawks, Golden Eagles and an occasional Northern Harrier soar overhead as they hunt for prey. Near the 1,700’ summit, the oak woodlands and rocky outcroppings provide habitat for songbirds, deer, coyotes and the elusive bobcat. At the peak’s base, a spring-fed pond and seasonal wetlands provide habitat for several species of amphibians, including the federally protected California red-legged frog, as well as several aquatic and shorebirds birds.

Be sure to bring plenty of water and a snack, and dress in layers. Sturdy shoes or hiking boots are recommended; hiking poles may be useful. Heavy rain cancels.

Directions: From I-580 in Livermore, exit north at Vasco Road and immediately turn right onto Northfront Road. After about .8 miles turn left onto Laughlin Road and proceed approximately two miles to the staging area at the end of Laughlin Road.

Are dogs allowed on Discover Diablo hikes?

No. Some Discover Diablo hikes take place on land owned by other organizations (such as Mount Diablo State Park & East Bay Regional Park lands) and many of the trails on these properties have a strict no-dog policy.

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

Anyone under the age of 18 will need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

No. On the hike day, we will have a roster with your registration information on it. Please make sure to check in with the hike leader.
