- **Event Description**: Following part of the Stanza Stone poetry trail, this is a moorland and canalside walk on the Rochdale / Calderdale border,

This route begins following the Pennine Way from Blackstone Edge reservoir and we very soon visit the Rain Stone just off the path. After reading the poetry we will continue on to Warland Reservoir, across Walsden Moor and descend into the valley to join the canal towpath for some easier walking. After a while we will head back up onto the moor to finish, using the Pennine Bridelway.

On this route we will also pass Gaddings Dam (a popular bathing spot) and the uniquely shaped Basin Stone (good for a little climb and photo opportunity).

Most of this walk is on old packhorse routes / moorland tracks with some canal paths and tarmac roads. It may be muddy in places.
Approx. 11 miles / 18km, 1175ft / 330m climb.

Well behaved, friendly dogs are welcome, but will need to be on leads for a lot of the route due to livestock and ground nesting birds. They must also be agile or small enough to get over stiles easily.

Children aged 8+ are welcome.
Walking at an easy-moderate pace we expect this walk to take approx. 5.5 hours (including rest breaks).

As with all Abigail's Trails, this is a small-group guided walk led byan experienced, empathetic guide and qualified Mountain Leader. Spaces are limited and cost £18 per person.
