- **Event Description**: The American Heart Association, in partnership with The University of Miami’s Gordon Center, is excited to announce a new stroke education course for in-hospital and prehospital healthcare professionals. The new Advanced Stroke Life Support (ASLS®) Blended Learning Course will educate healthcare professionals to identify, evaluate, and manage patients with stroke.

The American Heart Association Advanced Stroke Life Support (ASLS) Prehospital Provider Course is designed to enhance the knowledge and skills of EMS professionals in the rapid recognition, assessment, and management of acute stroke patients in the prehospital setting. This evidence-based program emphasizes early identification of stroke signs, effective communication with receiving facilities, and timely interventions to improve patient outcomes.

Participants will engage in interactive learning focused on stroke pathophysiology, prehospital stroke scales, airway and cardiovascular management, and decision-making for transport to appropriate stroke centers. The course aligns with current AHA guidelines and promotes a team-based approach to stroke care.

WHO SHOULD TAKE THE COURSE?
This course is meant for any healthcare providers who interact with acute stroke patients and are looking to meet the education requirements for Stroke Center Certification. This course is designed for Paramedics, EMTs, RN’s and other advanced level providers. 

Prehospital Provider Course:
• Highlights the principles of prehospital stroke management that make up the current standard of care, such as determining when to call a stroke alert and quickly transport the patient to the nearest appropriate facility.

• Explains how to communicate the patient’s symptoms, time of onset, and neurologic exam clearly and succinctly with hospital personnel.

In-Hospital Provider Course:
• Focuses on the importance of an organized approach to treating stroke patients for improved outcomes

• Discusses the etiologic evaluation and secondary stroke prevention for stroke patients

• Describes the management of goals for acute ischemic stroke, intracerebral hemorrhage, and subarachnoid hemorrhage

• Outlines post-acute care management including supportive medical care, rehabilitation, and discharge planning for stroke patients

A required hands-on skills session will be held to reinforce key competencies, including patient assessment, scenario-based management, and communication strategies.

Time: 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM (Pre-Hospital Provider)
           1pm-4pm (In-Hospital Provider)
Location: Camp Ripley Training Center
Cost: $350

Cost includes: Online Module, In-Person skills session, ASLS provider manual, and certification e-card upon successful completion. 
Successful completion of the course and skills session prepares prehospital providers to deliver high-quality stroke care and improve coordination across the stroke system of care.

*Once registered, you will receive a link to the course from the American Heart Association within 48 hours. This course contains approximately 5 hours of recourse work that will need to be completed prior to the in-person skills session.
