Participants in single kayaks must be at least 15 years old.About the EventJoin WAWA and friends for a fun day of hiking, paddling, and exploration in one of Georgia’s most beautiful state parks!We’ll start the morning with a guided hike through Sweetwater Creek State Park, exploring the historic mill ruins as well as the local wildlife and geological features. Then, after a relaxing lakeside picnic, we’ll head to the water for a beginner-friendly kayaking tour across the lake reservoir. No experience necessary, and all gear provided.The paddling portion is intentionally beginner-friendly, and includes on-land instruction before entering the water. Participants will learn foundational paddling techniques, safety principles, and how to navigate lake/flatwater environments. To participate, you must:Be able to sit upright for up to 2 hours. Participants must be able to independently hold head upright without neck or head support.Ability to swim is not required, however, participants must be realistic about their abilities and comfort level in a boat. We will get wet (lower body, possibly upper body).Be able to breathe independently (i.e. not require medical devices to sustain breathing). Inhalers are fine.Be able to follow instructions and communicate independently (e.g. without the aid of another person or device).Be able to walk up to 2 miles on uneven terrain during the hike.Kayaking is a full-body activity that requires the use of arms, shoulders, chest, and legs. Participants should be comfortable walking on uneven ground.The paddle takes place on flatwater in a calm reservoir. No prior kayaking experience is required.
