Raven is n exhibition that celebrates the extraordinary life and creative work of Liina Raven Flynn. Including recent ceramic work as well as paintings, drawings and prints from across a lifetime committed to creativity and finding joyful balance. Curated by the loved ones she left behind. Liminal brings together Michelle King, Rowena Kempton, Arabella Barnard and James McKay ‘We are all exploring the space in between conscious thought and what comes next’. These four dedicated artists often exhibit together and work with awareness, often using found, natural and discarded materials. Local artist and photography teacher Michelle King, after more than 28 years of teaching and raising a family, has found more time to devote to her own creative practice. A lifelong photographer, Michelle has recently been experimenting with cyanotype and mixed media, alongside woven forms made from materials foraged from her property. Rowena Kempton returned to ceramics after moving to the Northern Rivers, having previously run a ceramic workshop in the 1990s. Following the floods, she changed direction and began weaving — discovering that vines, foraged fibres and a pair of secateurs could provide everything she needed to create. Raised in Lismore, Arabella Barnard studied Visual Arts and Graphic Design before moving to Naarm Melbourne, where she now works as a graphic designer. After eight years exploring fibres and textiles, Arabella has recently shifted towards digital design, combining her artistic vision with new technologies. James McKay, an artist working in timber and metal, recently moved from Sydney to Bundjalung Country. With 20 years as Head of Scenery Construction for the Sydney Theatre Company and more than 250 theatre productions behind him, James has brought his considerable making and construction experience into his own creative practice. His work explores locally sourced hardwood, discarded timber and the possibilities hidden within natural materials. Alongside Liminal is The Beauty in Nature by local artist Kathleen Harding. Kathleen has lived in the Northern Rivers for most of her life and describes creating art as a journey — from the first concept through to the finished work, with plenty of surprises along the way. Working predominantly in acrylic, she explores flowers, birds and landscapes through colour, texture and a mixture of realism, open impressionism and abstraction. Her aim is to bring the beauty of nature onto the canvas — creating works filled with colour, calmness and, almost, fragrance. Kathleen has exhibited widely in the region, including a solo exhibition at Lennox Art Collective, and was the recipient of the People's Choice Award at the Bentley Art Prize in 2013. There will be live music for your enjoyment and catering is lovingly brought to you by the exhibiting artists. These three exhibitions run until Saturday the 14th November.
