The gardens collectively cover 10 acres andare the oldest cultivated gardens in the country.The lower garden was mostly created in the 19thcentury for the 6th Duke of Devonshire, Sir JosephPaxton’s patron. Meandering paths lead you throughthis informal setting of trees and shrubs and out ontoopen lawns. The stately yew avenue in the heart of thegarden is much older than the garden itself. From thespring flowering magnolias and rhododendronsthrough to the later flowering shrubs and borders thereis always something in bloom.Entry to the garden will be paid on the morning.
