James is from Cork city’s northside and spent over ten years in addiction which led him to Pr*son & hospital many times. James finally got sober in 2013 and has spent the last six years in education. He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Youth & Community Work, a Master’s Degree in Criminology and is a Ph.D. candidate at the Department of Sociology & Criminology, University College Cork. His research interests include drug use, drug policy, desistance and related topics. James is married and has previously worked in addiction and homeless services. He now works at Cork Education & Training Board Youth Services and sits on the Board of Directors at Cork Simon Community. He hopes this podcast can inspire people to change and to educate those who have an interest in topics related to drug use, addiction, recovery, desistance, trauma, mental health and social class.
Timmy is from the northside of Cork city, Ireland. Timmy lived a chaotic life of addiction, crime and Pr*son but managed to get sober in 2011. He learned to read and write at the age of 32 in Pr*son and was diagnosed with dyslexia. Today Timmy is a qualified carpenter and has a Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management from Cork Institute of Technology. His dissertation focused on mental health among construction workers. He is married with two children and is in the process of starting his own company where he carries out construction related work for clients. A social entrepreneur, Timmy hopes to employ people in recovery to work with him as his business grows. He is passionate about helping others and sees this podcast as an excellent means for giving hope to people struggling with poor mental health, trauma and addiction.
