# Event Details - **Event Name**: Chinese Calligraphy Workshop - **Event Start and End Date**: Sun, 11 Oct, 2026 at 03:00 pm – Sun, 11 Oct, 2026 at 04:30 pm (+01:00) - **Event Description**: Dive into the world of calligraphy with us!About this EventChinese Calligraphy WorkshopDiscover the beauty, history, and expressive power of Chinese calligraphy through a relaxed and creative workshop. With a history of more than 2,000 years, Chinese calligraphy is one of China’s most respected traditional art forms. Using brush, ink, and paper, it transforms written language into a visual art based on rhythm, balance, movement, and intention.More than handwriting, calligraphy has long been connected with philosophy, poetry, meditation, and personal cultivation. Each brushstroke reflects focus, energy, and the individuality of the writer. Today, it continues to inspire artists and audiences around the world. The ExperienceThe workshop draws on ideas at the heart of Chinese calligraphy: 势 (momentum), 顿挫 (rhythmic pause), 气呵成 (a gesture carried through continuously) and 气韵生动 (vitality) Not as theory, but as something you can feel in the hand. You will see the same character in structured, running and cursive forms. Watch how the brush gathers force, where it hesitates, where it releases, and how a character can feel completely different without ceasing to be itself. You’ll take one form through repetition, allowing speed, pressure, scale and rhythm to change it. The session ends with a larger piece: one character, one movement, one moment. Not a search for perfect handwriting, but for a line that feels alive. This Experience Is Designed For• Complete beginners, no Chinese or calligraphy experience is needed• Anyone curious about drawing, writing, movement, rhythm and visual expression• People who want to experience Chinese calligraphy as something alive, not simply something to copy• A small group, with space to watch Ruya write, experiment freely and receive individual guidanceAll calligraphy materials are provided.About the FacilitatorRuya Zhang is a Chinese writer and multidisciplinary creative based in Lisbon.
