- **Event Start and End Date**: Sat, 14 Mar, 2026 at 11:00 am – Sat, 14 Mar, 2026 at 03:00 pm
- **Event Description**: For our Opening Day 2026, we celebrate by honoring our nation's 250th birthday. With that, we are taking time to remember that we at the Benson-Hammond House are here because of another equally important date!

The resurrection and saving of the Benson-Hammond House is due to it being a Bicentennial Project that began in 1976! The Ann Arrundell County Historical Society members chose this house as their way of honoring the 200th birthday of our nation.

Those special people from the society, just newly formed in 1962, gathered together to complete a nearly impossible task- to bring a shell of a house back from the brink of destruction.

Learn about their incredible efforts and the hours of care and devotion of so many people to create the treasure that still stands today. We also invite those who were with us over the years to be here on this day.

Now, in 2026, after FIFTY years of special volunteer hours and the hard work of so many, we are now a truly unique museum and a "home" to the memory of the families that came before and the descendants that carry on the stories and very heart of our county.

IN ADDITION, we are remembering that our local cemeteries carry the names and histories of these families. Special guest Tina Simmons, AAGS Cemetery Chair and Board member of the Coalition to Protect MD Burial Sites will be with us to discuss their work.

Annapolis stone cutter Tim Feist will offer a demonstration of the traditional method of stone letter carving, with tools and pieces of scrap stone for attendees to interact with.

We also will have John Acree, a working stone cutter for a local monument company, will talk about creating, repairing, and cleaning headstones and bronze markers. John has made stones that are in local cemeteries, including Friendship Cemetery in Linthicum.
