Oktoberfest 2026 in Lincolnwood

Lincolnwood gives Oktoberfest its free weekends. The beer gardens fill with live music, giant steins and dancing, and nobody's ever been asked for lederhosen. Bring people and the eating starts on its own, bratwurst and pretzels going round the communal tables until the night has its own shape. If a good beer with friends is the plan, keep it. Since 1810

Why it is called Oktoberfest when it happens in September

A horse race on a Munich meadow in 1810, watched by a royal couple and a cheering crowd

Munich has been doing this since 1810, when it marked the marriage of Crown Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese with a public horse race. The next year Bavarian farmers added a show of their harvest, from hops and barley to fruit, and the festival stuck. It was later moved forward into late September, because the weather then is reliably better than in October.

Munich's 2026 Wiesn ran from September 19 to October 4.
