Join us for a fun and relaxed hike on the trails at Lincoln's New Salem State Historic Site to kick off 2026!

Whether you're a seasoned explorer or a first-timer on the park's trails, it's the perfect way to start the year outdoors. You are welcome to hike any of the 7 miles of trails at New Salem, but Trails & Greenways will be hosting hikes along Cardinal Ridge Trail (1-mile) and Shickshack Trail (½-mile) located on the east side of the historic site.

Special "First Day Hike" stickers are available for first-come, first-served. Should additional stickers be unclaimed, they may be obtained in the Visitor Center on January 2 or 3, 2026.
