The focus will be on animal science and what is measured, how it is measured and what it means. Through animal science, environmental data will also be introduced, and how both areas of data are being used in trails to redesign productive systems for the future.This in-person event will dive into how both soft data and hard data are being used in the field, how it is collected and some of the wide range of graphs and tables that are used frequently for decision making.This event is perfect for anyone interested in the intersection of data, science and land management who wants to shape and redesign the world around us.The following information will be provided...Run sheet of the day with timingsParking instructionsA safety plan for the eventStudent handoutsPre and post online survey linkPlease note: one of the activities is lab based so students need to wear closed-toe shoes and appropriate clothing for the lab environment. Students will learn about the soft and hard data that is used within animal science including cow collars, reproduction data, and technology that is available. Activities include analysing CT images and body condition scoring sheep models. It has been valued at $789 million/ year with annual seed exports accounting for $270 million. This lab explores some of the tests and data that is collected to determine seed quality from harvest to sale ,and what those values mean in terms of financial costs and benefits. this is a tactile hands on lab, and will be held in the lab so closed shoes and appropriate clothing is required. Depending on their decisions they will either get positive or negative decision-making points depending on the impacts their decision has. Along the way they will encounter careers, and how they interlink and form the land-based community.
