About the event

Woman Grows Jeans Screening
Screening of Woman Grows Jeans + live Q&A with Justine at Barbican Creative Hub. Drink included. Part of the Threaded series.

About this Event

This event is part of our Threaded series- a small run of events we’ve been hosting while in residence at the Barbican Creative Hub.

Through Threaded, we’re using the space to bring people together to explore our communities and environmental challenges through materials, making and systems thinking- in practical, accessible ways.

Project Fashion Fixed, in association with the fabulous Indie-Lincs presents a screening of Woman Grows Jeans, the story of one woman who set out to grow, dye and make a pair of jeans entirely from UK-grown materials. We’re also delighted that Justine will be travelling over to spend the evening with us.

After the film, there will be an opportunity to talk about the project, the jeans, and ask her questions directly.

If you know Lincoln and haven’t yet been inside the new Barbican Creative Hub, this is a great opportunity to have a look around and see what the space is like and what it has to offer.

We’ll open the doors early so there’s time to explore and have a chat before we start.

The evening will include:

6pm – Arrival hour, time to look around and connect
7pm – Film screening (50 mins long)
• Followed by a conversation with Justine.
• Concluding with Informal drinks and space to talk afterwards (close at 9pm)

We’re keeping this first one fairly small as a pilot evening- a chance to test the format and see where it might lead. Come along, watch the film, have a drink, and be part of the conversation!

What people are saying about the film -

‘It's incredible, to see woad and flax - plants native to the Northern England Fibershed's ecosystem, transformed by community, and the passion and talent of Justine into the most functional and necessary garment. She weaves her clothes and her community into this materially and spiritually transformative project.‘

Rebecca Burgess

Author of Harvesting Color/M.ed Place Based Education/Founder and Director of Fibershed

‘When our very life source is dying, we need to feel connected to our Earth Mother if we are to defend and protect her. Your documentary highlights our disconnect and shines a light on solutions, through community, creativity and education. I loved it very much.‘
