This talk will provide an overview of the aquifers throughout Nebraska, their uses and their drawbacks. The presentation will then dive into current research being done throughout the state.  The research touches on both groundwater quality and quantity concerns for those using ground-water for human consumption.

**Join Wachiska on Thursday, July 10, at 7:00 PM at Lincoln’s Unitarian Church, 6300 A Street, to meet Mikaela Cherry.**

​Mikaela Cherry is a Physical Scientist with the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) at the Central Plains Water Science Center in Lincoln, Nebraska. Since joining the USGS in 2021, Mikaela has worked on a number of projects revolving around of water quality research and specializing in groundwater age dating. Her work plays a crucial role in understanding water quality trends and groundwater contamination, ensuring safer water resources for communities. She is passionate about using innovative techniques to address complex environmental challenges and is committed to advancing the field of water science through her research and collaboration with fellow scientists.

 Mikaela is also an adjunct professor at UNL where she serves on graduate student committees and teaching the occasional lecture.  Groundwater is an important resource throughout Nebraska with over 88% of Nebraskans utilizing groundwater as their drinking water source.
